Thomas Kuhn (1922–1996) was an American philosopher of science, best known for his work on the history and philosophy of science. He is most famous for his book "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" (1962), in which he introduced the concept of "paradigm shifts".

Kuhn argued that scientific progress does not occur in a linear, cumulative fashion but instead happens through periodic, revolutionary changes in which an existing scientific framework (or "paradigm") is replaced by a new one.
